Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Vasile Botnari ("we"), 9 Doughty Mews, London WC1N 2PG, United Kingdom, collects when you use Mizar English, why we collect it, who else processes it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions go to [email protected].
The short version. We keep what your learning depends on: your answers, your conversation transcripts, and your progress. Audio is processed while you speak and is not stored afterwards. Card numbers never reach us — Stripe handles payment. We do not sell your data. You can delete your account, and the data with it, from your profile.
What we collect
| Account | Email address and a password hash. Your name, if you give one. |
|---|---|
| Onboarding answers | Why you are learning, your first language, your level, your daily goal, when to remind you. |
| Conversations | The text transcript of what you and the tutor said, the corrections and words from the review, and how long you spoke. |
| Audio | Your speech is streamed to a speech-to-text provider and turned into text as you talk. We do not store the audio after the conversation ends. |
| Usage | Which lessons you opened, minutes used, level changes, error logs. |
| Device and network | IP address, browser type, and cookies needed to keep you signed in. |
| Payment | Subscription status, the last four digits and card brand as reported by Stripe, invoices and receipts. We never receive your full card number. |
| Safety | If our crisis check triggers during a conversation, we record that it triggered and what was shown to you. |
Why we use it
- To run the lesson — the tutor needs your words to reply, and the review needs them to explain.
- To personalise the course — your answers choose your starting branch, your level sets the pace.
- To keep you safe — the crisis check reads what you say in order to stop the lesson and show the 988 line.
- To bill you — subscriptions, receipts, refunds, and disputes.
- To keep the service working — diagnosing errors, preventing fraud and abuse, enforcing fair use.
- To measure our advertising — see "Advertising" below.
We do not use your conversations to train third-party AI models.
Who else processes it
We use a small number of service providers. They may process your data only to provide their service to us.
| OpenAI | Speech-to-text, the tutor's replies, and the review. Receives conversation audio and text. |
|---|---|
| Stripe | Payments and subscriptions. Receives your card details directly and your email, and sends payment receipts and billing notices. |
| Cloudflare | Delivers the site and protects it. Sees your IP address. |
| Meta | Advertising measurement. See below. |
Advertising
We advertise on Facebook and Instagram. To know which ads bring people who actually use the service, we send
Meta a record of certain events — for example that a visit turned into a trial or a subscription — together with
identifiers such as a hashed email address, your IP address, and Meta's own cookies (_fbp,
_fbc).
Under California law this counts as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, even though no money changes hands. You can opt out at any time: [email protected]. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share the content of your conversations with advertisers.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember that you have already seen the AI disclosure. Advertising cookies come from Meta as described above. Blocking cookies in your browser will sign you out, but the site will still work.
How long we keep it
- Audio: not stored after the conversation ends.
- Transcripts, reviews, progress: while your account is open, so your history stays yours.
- Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually seven years, even after you close the account.
- Safety records: up to two years.
- Everything else: deleted within 30 days of closing your account.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it. Write to [email protected], or delete your account yourself from your profile.
If you are in California, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know, to delete, to correct, to opt out of sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for using those rights. We answer within 45 days. You may use an authorised agent. We do not sell personal information, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Mizar English is operated from the United Kingdom, so UK data protection law (the UK GDPR) applies. We use your data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), to keep billing records the law requires (legal obligation), and to keep the service safe, working and measured, including advertising measurement (legitimate interests — you can object at any time at the address above). Our providers process data in the United States under safeguards recognised by UK law, such as the UK–US Data Bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Where your data is
Our servers are in the Netherlands, and our providers may process data in the United States and the European Union. By using the service you understand that your data may be processed outside the country where you live.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Access to production data is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you.
Children
Mizar English is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters to you, we will email you before the change takes effect.
